New remix of Crescendo – Are You Out There?

Thirty years after it first tore up dancefloors, “Are You Out There” is back in a brand new mix. The Nick Coles & The Morrighan Remix is out now on Beatport via Revoke. The record — credited to Crescendo feat. The Morrighan — is one of those rare tracks that never really went away, and this new version gives it another life for a generation of trance fans who weren’t even born when it first dropped.

From Crescendo to The Morrighan

The story of “Are You Out There” starts with Jon Crosse, who released the original back in 1995 under the alias Crescendo. It became an instant underground classic — the first ever dance record to be played on BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix from Ibiza, and a No.1 on the NME and Cool Cuts charts.

A few years later, Jon — now going by Jon-X — joined forces with vocalist Cecily Fay to form The Morrighan, kicking things off with “Remember (To The Millennium)” in 1999. The Morrighan quickly built a reputation for their cinematic, sample-heavy take on trance, weaving in spoken word from films and TV into their productions, and later linking up with Lange for the huge “Follow Me,” co-written by Crosse, Fay and Stuart Langelaan.

This new remix ties the whole story together — the track that helped kickstart Jon’s career, now reworked decades later with The Morrighan themselves on remix duties with Nick Coles.

Nick The Kid

The other name behind the desk is Nick Coles, better known as Nick The Kid. Based in the South West of England, Nick has been a fixture of the underground trance scene for close to 30 years, wearing multiple hats along the way.

Bringing Nick Coles together with The Morrighan on this remix is a genuine meeting of two long-running corners of the UK trance underground — one built the anthem, the other has spent decades keeping the scene it came from alive.
